Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction or (ED), sometimes known as "Impotence," is the repeated inability to gain or even keep an erection firm enough or long enough to endure sexual intercourse. The word "impotence" may also be used to describe other problems that interfere with sexual intercourse and reproduction, such as lack of sexual desire and problems with ejaculation or orgasm. Using the term erectile dysfunction makes it clear that those other problems are not part of the equation.

This means even though a man has a strong desire to perform sexual intercourse with a cooperative partner, he cannot perform sexual intercourse because of the absence of erection of the penis (Phallus) Even if he performs sexual intercourse with his determined efforts he does not gain an erection and instead gets afflicted with tiredness, perspiration and a frustration to not be able to engage in sexual intercourse.

Erectile dysfunction can occur at any age, but it is more common in males older than 65. ED doesn't have to be a part of getting older. It's true that as you get older, your erections may take longer to develop, may not be as rigid or may require more direct stimulation (such as stroking and touching even orally) to be achieved. Men may also notice that orgasms are mush less intense than they used to be.

A New study has revealed that men who have sex at least thrice a week are less likely to develop erectile dysfunction later on in life. Regular sexual intercourse has an important role in preserving a man's erectile function. Continued sexual activity decreases the incidence of erectile dysfunction in direct proportion to coital frequency.

Of course there are a number of other factors that may affect the incidence of Erectile Dysfunction such as age, chronic medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and cerebrovascular disease, body mass index and smoking.

How erectile dysfunction is treated depends on what is causing it. You may need to visit a Doctor and he or she may have you try a medicine to help with erectile dysfunction. Some of these medicines are injected into your penis others can be delivered orally or even nasally. Of course the most well known of these treatments is "Viagra" but as with all of the oral and nasally delivered drugs they are not 100% risk free and can cause many side effects from nausea to heart attacks and even blurred vision.
